ESPN Unlimited's full YouTube TV integration slips to "later this fall"

First, the good news: last week, YouTube TV subscribers finally gained access to ESPN Unlimited — ESPN's all-in-one streaming tier — at no additional cost. You authenticate within the ESPN app and get everything it offers, including the NFL Network content we covered in July and exclusive events like WWE's SummerSlam. That access had been promised since a Disney–YouTube TV distribution deal last November, and it took months to arrive.

The catch is the second half of that deal. Disney also agreed to "ingest" ESPN Unlimited directly into the YouTube TV app — so you could watch, say, an ESPN+ college game inside YouTube TV without switching over to the ESPN app. That piece hasn't rolled out, and per a Cord Cutters News report, full integration is now expected "later this fall" (no exact date).

What it means for you: for now, YouTube TV subscribers still have to open the separate ESPN app to watch ESPN's digital content. The convenience of having it all live inside YouTube TV is coming — just not yet. It's part of the broader "rebuild the cable bundle inside a streaming app" push, the same logic behind Peacock joining YouTube Premium.

Football returns tomorrow — here's where to watch

The Hall of Fame Game kicks off the NFL season Thursday, August 6 (8 p.m. ET, Panthers vs. Cardinals, from Canton) on NBC and Peacock, with pregame coverage at 7 p.m. ET. It's the first football since the Super Bowl.

The map for what's ahead: preseason Week 1 runs August 13–15 — no games on a national broadcast network, but NFL Network carries six nationally on cable (and now on the ESPN app via ESPN Unlimited) — and the preseason runs through August 29. The regular season opens September 9 with a Super Bowl LX rematch, the Patriots at the Seahawks, on NBC and Peacock.

If you're a cord-cutter, the Hall of Fame Game needs NBC (over the air with an antenna) or Peacock (from $11/month), which is also the streaming home of Sunday Night Football all season.

The Leagues Cup is already on

The Leagues Cup — the tournament between MLS and Liga MX clubs — kicked off August 4 and runs over the coming weeks. Matches are split across the Apple TV app (through MLS Season Pass), FS1, and UniMás/TUDN in Spanish.
