Streaming news roundup: four MLB Division Series games today, the Grizzlies add ABC24 for local TV, and Paramount–WBD is now Skydance
Four MLB Division Series games today on TBS and FS1. Grizzlies put 15 games on ABC24 and DAZN. Paramount–WBD is now Skydance; no viewing changes yet.

The gist: There are four Division Series games today. The AL games are on TBS / truTV / HBO Max, and the NL games are on FS1 / FOX One. In Memphis, the Grizzlies named WATN/ABC24 as the local TV home for 15 games this season, and DAZN carries the same broadcasts. Paramount closed its Warner Bros. Discovery deal on Tuesday. The combined company, Skydance, now owns both CBS Sports and TNT Sports, but nothing has changed yet about where games air or what your apps cost.

Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery closes; the new company is Skydance
Update from Monday: Paramount completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on Tuesday, October 6. The combined company is named Skydance (NYSE: SKYD). Its brands include CBS, HBO and HBO Max, Paramount+, Pluto TV, CBS Sports and TNT Sports (Skydance press release, Oct. 6).
What it means for watching:
- Streaming apps: Skydance says its streaming products "will unify into a single service over time." It hasn't announced a name, price or date. Engadget reports the plan covers HBO Max, Paramount+ and Discovery+, and USA Today reports HBO Max and Paramount+ were still separate as of Tuesday.
- Sports leadership: CBS Sports and TNT Sports now have the same owner. CBS Sports chief David Berson is set to lead the combined sports operation, and TNT Sports' Luis Silberwasser is leaving (Variety, Oct. 5). SBJ's sources say a formal announcement is expected this week.
- Where games air: No changes have been announced to channels, apps or prices. Today's ALDS games are still on TBS / truTV / HBO Max.
Worth watching: A bigger sports portfolio could mean more leverage in rights talks, and Variety notes it gives Skydance more clout with leagues. Before the close, Skydance board director Gerry Cardinale said at an October 1 event that CBS would be better off negotiating with the NFL "in a few years when the contract comes up" (Sports Media Watch, Oct. 2). The NFL can opt out of most of its current deals after the 2029 season. That is a stated preference, not a decision.
Fan bottom line: You don't need to change anything today. We'll cover any app, price or packaging change once it's announced.
Who hosts NBA local games in 2027-28? DAZN and YouTube are both circling
Nothing has been decided, but two possible hosts are talking. DAZN's Pete Oliver told Sports Media Watch (interview Oct. 5, published Oct. 6) that DAZN is the ideal platform for the NBA's planned centralized local-streaming hub and that it will "absolutely" look at national rights as well. Separately, CNBC reported on October 2, citing people familiar with the plans, that YouTube is still deciding whether hosting the hub works if it can't get every team. YouTube would ideally like both in-market and out-of-market games.
Status: Commissioner Adam Silver said in July that he expects the hub to launch for the 2027-28 season (SBJ, July 15). No partner has been announced. None of this changes how you watch the 2026-27 season: each team's local deal (DAZN, team apps, local stations) stays as announced.
Around the Markets
Memphis: Grizzlies pick ABC24 as local TV home for 15 games
This updates our September 11 roundup. Back then, the Grizzlies made DAZN their local streaming home and said 15 games would also air on local TV with a partner to be named. On October 2, they named that partner: WATN/ABC24, a TEGNA station.
- What: ABC24 will carry 15 Grizzlies regular-season games in the Memphis market, and DAZN simulcasts them. In the team's local territory, those 15 games are open on DAZN to anyone with a free account (Grizzlies DAZN FAQ).
- First game: Friday, October 23, at Golden State, 9 p.m. CT. Eight of the 15 dates have been announced, and the other seven will come later (Sports Video Group, Oct. 6).
- Beyond Memphis: TEGNA says it intends to add stations in Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas and Kentucky, with station details expected in the coming weeks. For now that is only a plan, so don't count on carriage outside Memphis yet.
- The rest of the local season: Grizzlies on DAZN costs $19.99/month or $119.99/season, and Ultimate costs $24.99/month or $139.99/season (Grizzlies DAZN page, checked Oct. 7, 2026; prices can change).
Out-of-market fans use NBA League Pass, which blacks out local games inside the Grizzlies' territory.
